It's a great book. The movie is a great movie, too -- it is what made me fall in love with 2nd Officer Lightoller as a hero. I've seen the movie, but I actually didn't even know it was a book! Are you doing anything special for the Titanic anniversary?
The Washington Post - Washington, D. Walter Lord, 84, the popular historian and author who brought the skills of a raconteur and a "you are there" ambiance to the writing of history, died of Parkinson's disease May 19 at his home in New York. He will probably be best remembered for his best-selling book, "A Night to Remember," an account of the sinking of the British passenger ship the Titanic on its maiden transatlantic voyage and the attendant loss of 1, lives. But over the next three decades, he wrote a dozen more books covering such events as the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in December , the admission of the first black student to the University of Mississippi in and the burning of the White House and the Capitol during the War of In the course of his work, Mr. Lord helped create a group of history writers who tried to describe the human experience the way someone might tell a story after witnessing it in person, complete with anecdotes, human foibles and minute detail.
Ballard 'How' The Titanic is Survivors from the Titanic say that a band was playing as the Titanic was going down, no matter what the situation, in the Victorian Age it was a formal affair. This book is the truth coming straight from survivors mouths and into your minds. Sweet romance of a Spanish aristocrat taking a young girl from her hotel job and giving her another job on his spanish back country project with presumably the intention of winning her over.
Being a stickler for wanting to read the book before watching the movie, I had one week to read it. I wanted to read the book and I wanted to read it NOW. I do not condone this because I feel that respect is due to the authors that write these books, but I went to Google anyway and found a PDF of Divergent. Although I hate reading books over a screen or Nook or Kindle or anything like that, I was instantly enthralled in the book and wanted to read more and more. I read half of the book in a matter of hours.
